Wigs for Cancer!

Today I had 10 or so inches of my hair cut off to donate for wigs for people with cancer who loose their hair from Chemo Therapy and have a difficult time "blending" in with society.  I was thinking of my mum the whole time, and how strong she was the whole time she was suffering from breast cancer.  And thinking of all the other men women and children who have gone through the same thing, or are going through the same thing.

If you know someone who has done something like this.  Or even if you know someone who's gone though something similar to what my mum went though and they got a Wig!!! You can leave your story in the comment section of this post!

Any and all cash, cheque, or credit donations toward the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated!!!  You can read my other blog postings for information on how to donate!  (You can also join my team!!!) or you can just go to My Team Page to donate or join !!!

Bras Across the Bridge Holds Media Event in Bracebridge

"Bras were strewn in trees this morning, September 2nd, for a fundraiser leading up to the CIBC Run for the Cure.  A Muskoka specific initiative, Bras Across the Bridge will raise funds for the run set for October 2nd. Residents can give a minimum donation of two dollars, along with a bra with a special message to breast cancer survivors and those currently fighting, to be hung on the Silver Bridge in Bracebridge later this month. VP of Development for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Ontario Region, Karen Malone says the initiative is very unique.

Bras can be dropped off at four locations across Muskoka until September 16th. Those locations are Jackie's Boutique in downtown Bracebridge, the Bracebridge Sportsplex, the Little Black Bow in downtown Bracebridge and the Moose 99.5 studios in Bracebridge. Bras go up September 19th."

Why did you create the team For Laurie?

My mother first got breast cancer when I was 6-years-old, it was scary to even think about at the time.  We then moved to Newmarket, Ontario to live close to my mums partner.  In 2002 my mum started the Bell team for the CIBC Run for the Cure, "Simply Bell," and we went to the run in Toronto every year until 2005.  After that my mum started to get really sick, the cancer had spread to her other breast and into her lungs.

On August 1st, 2007 my mum lost her battle with breast cancer.  My family and friends then created a team for the 2007 CIBC Run for the Cure in Toronto, "For Laurie," though we haven't gone to the run since 2007.  So, this year, I am determined to get together a team of at least 10 people to raise donations and come with me to the run in Bracebridge, Ontario.  My personal goal is to raise at least $300, and as a team I want to raise at least $1,500.

The only way we can get our team shirts with the team name, "For Laurie," on the back, is if we get a minimum of 10 members.  Please E-Mail me at jemm789@hotmail.com or follow the steps in my other blog postings to join our team in the fight to create a future without breast cancer !

Spreading the Word

If 10 people donate $10 to For Laurie, that raises $100

If those 10 people talk to 10 people each (that's 100 people) who donate $10, that raises $1,000

And if those 100 people talk to 10 people each (1,000 people!) who donate $10, that's  $10,000 !!!

All you have to do, is talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and get them to donate a couple dollars (Remember to get them to fill out the donation form I gave you, or the one you printed off of that link!) and we can raise a lot of money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to create a future without breast cancer!
